How Often Should You Really Be Washing Your Clothes

Washing your clothes too often can produce an unnecessary amount of microplastic going into our water, an excessive use of water and can deteriorate the materials in the clothing making their lifespan shorter.

To avoid these, this is how often you should be washing your clothes and garments:

-Pajamas can be washed after 3-5 wears, but it depends on your body. If you sweat more at night, wash more frequently, if you don’t, wash less.

-T-shirts, tank top and camisoles, wash after 1-3 wears

-Outer clothes like dress shirts, etc. can be worn a few times (2-4) before washing

-Jeans can be worn 3 times before needing a wash

-Bras can be worn 3 times before washing

-Underwear and socks should be washed after each wear

These are the recommended wears between washes, but it also depends on your body and your conditions. Many of us wash our clothes much more than actually needed and could prolong the life of our garments and use less water by simply washing less! Another great method is to use the trusty smell test!
